(January 25, 2021): The United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana is pleased to announce Dean Karen E. Bravo as the speaker at its 22nd annual Black History Month event. Appointed as Dean of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law on July 1, 2020, Dean Bravo is the first person of color ever appointed to the role. This year's hour-long program, Looking Back, Leaning Forward, will be held virtually on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 2:00 PM. Indianapolis, Indiana (December 7, 2020): The United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana is pleased to announce three Indiana winners from the District Court's Bill of Rights student competition. Students from across the state submitted essays, poems, art, and videos expressing their thoughts on the importance of the Bill of Rights and its meaning in their lives. The Court received many wonderful submissions and the decision was difficult. All students who entered a submission are to be congratulated for their effort. The Honorable Jane E. Magnus-Stinson, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, announced today the selection of Mario Garcia for the position of United States Magistrate Judge. Mr. Garcia will fill a new magistrate judgeship created for the Southern District of Indiana by the Judicial Conference of the United States. INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (November 30, 2020): During the month of December, courts across the country celebrate the anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution's first 10 Amendments. On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, the United States Courts of Appeals along with the United States District Courts for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits are hosting a Bill of Rights Family Event live in Zoom at 6pm Central/7pm Eastern. The program, The Bill of Rights and You: 2020 Celebration, will feature judges and attorneys from the Seventh and Eighth Circuits discussing the Bill of Rights and how it affects you and your family. INDIANAPOLIS (November 9, 2020) – The third and final fall virtual CLE event organized by the Court Historical Society of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and sponsored by the Court will take place on November 20, 2020 at 4 PM. After a September panel presentation on administering justice in a pandemic and an October session on the struggle for woman suffrage in Indiana, the Historical Society's November CLE will focus on a notorious election fraud case from the Court's history. School aged children (K-12) in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin are invited to submit an essay, poem, video, photograph, song, or piece of art on the importance of the Bill of Rights.
