Courthouse Restrictions

Photo ID Requirement:

All persons are required to show a valid U.S. government issued identification card (federal or state) before being allowed entry to federal courthouses in the Southern District of Indiana.  At a minimum, the identification card must show the person’s photo, name, and date of birth.

Security Procedures:

This order establishes the security procedures applicable to all persons entering federal court facilities in the Southern District of Indiana, including the Birch Bayh Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Indianapolis, the United States Courthouse in Terre Haute; the United States Courthouse in Evansville; and the Lee H. Hamilton Federal Building and Courthouse in New Albany (collectively referred to as "U.S. Courthouses in the Southern District" or "Courthouse Facilities").

Beverage Prohibition:

All liquids and beverages are prohibited from being brought into any federal courthouse in the Southern District of Indiana.

  Courthouse Beverage Policy

Smoking Policy:

Smoking is prohibited inside federal courthouses in the Southern District of Indiana, and within 25 feet of entrances and air intakes. This includes the use of “E-Cigarettes”, “Vaping” and other forms of smoking accessories.
