Join the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana for a FREE 2-day workshop on the federal courts! The program will offer middle and high school teachers an immersive look at the workings of the federal courts with fresh ideas and content that you can take back to your classrooms. 


Session Highlights:

What Should Every Citizen Know about the Federal Justice System?

          Did you ever wish you knew more about the workings of the federal criminal justice system? A guest panel will demystify the legal system and share how they help criminal defendants, prisoners, and their families navigate the process. Panelists will include a federal defender, private practice attorney, and U.S. probation officer. 

Hexagonal Thinking: Adding Critical Thinking to Your Classroom

          Join Tim Kalgreen, Director of Civic Education at the Indiana Bar Foundation, for this enlightening session on student-directed critical thinking methodology. The session will incorporate examples from Supreme Court cases.

You be the Judge + Debrief with a Federal Judge

          Explore the federal criminal sentencing process with this interactive activity developed by the U.S. Courts! Participants will take on the role of judges in the sentencing of a fictitious criminal defendant. Afterwards, meet with a federal district judge to learn what it's really like to preside over sentencing proceedings.
