Registration is NOW OPEN for the Southern District of Indiana's 2023 Teacher Institute!
Join the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana for a FREE 2-day workshop on the federal courts! The program will offer middle and high school teachers an immersive look at the workings of the federal courts with fresh ideas and content that you can take back to your classrooms.
Have you participated in a past teacher institute? Content will differ from past programs, and you are welcome to join us.
The 2023 program will feature an intensive look at both civil and criminal proceedings. Participants will interact with federal judges, lawyers, and representatives of related entities through a series of engaging presentations and interactive activities. Sessions include:
-A primer on federal criminal prosecutions with U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Zachary Myers
-An opportunity to watch a sentencing hearing in a criminal case
-A chat with Magistrate Judge Craig McKee on the court's role in the early stages of a criminal proceeding
-A presentation by a federal criminal defense attorney
-An interactive mock settlement conference with real attorneys and a judge
-A panel presentation on civil court proceedings with practicing attorneys and Magistrate Judge Kellie Barr
