Roger A. G. Sharpe, Clerk of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, announced that the Clerk's Offices in the four divisions of the Southern District of Indiana are closed to the public, beginning today, November 23, 2020. The Clerk's Offices of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Indiana are also closed to the public. These closures are in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and specifically within the Southern District of Indiana. These limited closures will further protect the public and court staff while allowing all core functions of the Clerk's Office to continue.Please see the Press Release for further information.

The Court has considered the recommendation of the Local Rules Advisory Committee that the revision of certain Local Rules of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana be adopted, and the Clerk issued a Public Notice on September 21, 2020, regarding the proposed amendments.  The Court has considered the proposed amendments and the comments received.  Therefore, pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2071, Rule 83 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and Rule 57 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana hereby gives public notice that the following amendments (linked below) to the Local Rules of this Court are adopted, effective December 1, 2020.

Effective immediately in all of the Court's divisions, all in person jury trials are continued until at least January 25, 2021. Jury trials conducted by video teleconference may proceed upon motion and/or Order of the presiding Judge.  Additionally, until at least January 25, 2021, all Court-officiated naturalization ceremonies are cancelled.  Please see Order linked below for full details.

  General Order Re: Continued Court Operations Under the Exigent Circumstances Created by COVID-19 and Related Coronavirus

Chief Judge Jane E. Magnus-Stinson today issued a General Order that suspends all in-person jury trials in all divisions of the Southern District of Indiana until at least January 25, 2021. All Court-officiated naturalization ceremonies are also cancelled until January 25, 2021. To the extent this Order differs from previous orders of the Court on this subject, this Order supersedes and replaces those Orders.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (November 30, 2020): During the month of December, courts across the country celebrate the anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution's first 10 Amendments. On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, the United States Courts of Appeals along with the United States District Courts for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits are hosting a Bill of Rights Family Event live in Zoom at 6pm Central/7pm Eastern. The program, The Bill of Rights and You: 2020 Celebration, will feature judges and attorneys from the Seventh and Eighth Circuits discussing the Bill of Rights and how it affects you and your family. INDIANAPOLIS (November 9, 2020) – The third and final fall virtual CLE event organized by the Court Historical Society of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and sponsored by the Court will take place on November 20, 2020 at 4 PM. After a September panel presentation on administering justice in a pandemic and an October session on the struggle for woman suffrage in Indiana, the Historical Society's November CLE will focus on a notorious election fraud case from the Court's history.
