The United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana will host a training session for attorneys on implicit bias on Friday, March 6, 2020. This 90‐minute training will take place from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the William E. Steckler Ceremonial Courtroom (Courtroom 202), located in the Birch Bayh Federal Building and United States  Courthouse, 46 East Ohio Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46204. The program will be presented by Preshuslee Thompson from the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. The federal court family will host its 21st annual Black History Month event on Friday, February 14, 2020, at 2:00 pm in the William E. Steckler Ceremonial Courtroom, at the Birch Bayh Federal Building and United States Courthouse in downtown Indianapolis. Dr. Modupe Labode, curator at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., will present "Booker T. Washington Slept Here: African American Politics in Indiana in the Early 1900s." 0.8 hours of continuing legal education credit has been approved. For further details, please see the Press Release

This month, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the federal courthouse in Terre Haute. To commemorate this milestone anniversary, a portrait of Judge Larry J. McKinney is on display in the Terre Haute courtroom through the end of the year. As Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana from 2001 to 2007, Judge McKinney was instrumental in the effort to find a new home for the district court when its former location was acquired by Indiana State University. Wood announced that the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit will have a Memorial Proceeding for Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at 9:30 a.m., in the James B. The Court has considered the recommendation of the Local Rules Advisory Committee that the revision of certain Local Rules of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana be adopted, and the Clerk issued a Public Notice on September 16, 2019, regarding the proposed amendments.  The Court has considered the proposed amendments and the comments received.

Therefore, pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2071 and Rule 83 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and Rule 57 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana hereby gives public notice that the amendments (linked below) to the Local Rules of this Court are adopted, effective December 1, 2019.

The Court Historical Society of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana will host its 12th Annual Court History & Continuing Legal Education Symposium on November 1, 2019, from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. This year's symposium will feature a look back on two major projects recently completed by the Historical Society, plus an exploration of the paths to the bench of past and present judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
